FAQs

What length of holiday do you offer?

We do one week holidays (or multiples of one week), we don’t cater for short breaks.

When are your changeover days?

Jill’s changeover day is Friday and Jack’s is Saturday with the houses ready by 4pm.

Do you permit dogs?

We only allow registered assistance dogs to stay.

Are children or infants allowed?

Yes, if an infant sleeps in a cot then they do not count towards the maximum of 4 guests. Children not sleeping in a cot count towards the ‘4’.

Do you provide equipment for infants?

Yes, a travel cot, high chair and stairgate can be provided on request.

Do you provide firewood for the chimenea?

Yes, both kindling and logs which are provided for free.

Is it possible to be seen by guests in the other house?

No, there is good screening on Jack’s eastern deck/balcony to prevent this.

What is the food shopping like nearby?

There are two food shops in the village, one quite large (see ‘Local Info’ page’) and in Fort William there are Morrisons (large), Aldi, M&S Food, Lidl and Tescos (small).

Do I have to take the Corran Ferry to get to Strontian and do I have to book?

It is much easier / quicker to take the 5 minute Corran Ferry if you are coming from the east or south and saves a extra ~60 minutes driving around the Loch. It’s not possible to book, just turn up.

How often does the ferry cross?

It generally crosses crosses every 15 minutes, so from each side every 30 minutes. It crosses more often if it busy and is forced to ‘shuttle’.

When is the last ferry?

The last ferry from the Corran side (south) is at 9.30pm every night.

Do you have charge points for electric cars?

Yes. We have a 7kw ‘Zappi’ charger that can be used by guests and we charge you ‘at cost’, so around 25p/kwh as of 2025. There is a 50kw fast charger in Strontian village and 250kw Tesla superchargers in Fort William (available to anyone who down loads the Tesla app).

Do you provide information on walks or maps?

Yes, we provide lots of printed information on walks, places to eat and activity provides. There are also lots of maps to borrow.

Is there a pub close by?

The Stontian Hotel is located in the village centre, around 5 minutes drive or 30 minutes walk away. It has a bar and restaurant. Check its website for opening times particularly in the winter.

Can we book both houses together?

Yes, but the changeover days remain the same. So one set of guests could arrive from Friday (4pm) at ‘Jill’ but ‘Jack’ wouldn’t be ready until 4pm on the Saturday. However, it would be fine for the second set of guests to arrive early on the Saturday and spend the day in ‘Jill’.

Can extra guests stay?

Yes, if you have booked fewer than 4 guests you can ask for extra beds to be made up. We have a strict maximum of four guests (excluding infants in cots) for any night.

Yes, each house has a wind range of books, board games and DVDs to watch, many quite recent releases.

Although we are not (yet) able to access superfast broadband, most of the time the wifi is around 10 Mbps. We will upgrade to a faster option when one is available.

What TV do you have?

Each house has a 50 inch LED HDR 4K Ultra HD Smart TV with Freeview. There is also a DVD player. You’ll hae to sign in to your own Netflix/Apple/Amazon accounts.
